This video covers replacing struts on a 1993 Lexus SC300 but the process is basically the same for most automobiles.
With the struts beginning to leak fluid and failing keep the hood open, it was indicated that it was time for replacement. The old struts were found to be the original ones from 1993 (…yes, that’s over 20 years old!). It’s really amazing that they have lasted this long.
Tools required:
- an appropriately sized stick or wood to safely prop up the hood
or a pair of locking pliers.
-a small adjustable crescent wrench or a combination wrench set.
-two new replacement hood struts.
-torque wrench if you’re picky.
The struts installed in this video are Monroe Max-Lift® Gas Charged Lift Supports #901743
Lexus Torque Specs:
End-ball Joint Bolts = 16 ft-lbf
