Diese Holzuhr wird durch ein Gewicht angetrieben und hat als Besonderheit ein sehr großes, zentrisch angeordnetes Hemmungsrad das ständig in Bewegung ist und alle Blicke auf sich zieht.
Dieses Rad ist auch der Namensgeber, denn es erinnert mich an den Strahlenkranz der Sonne, wie er bei einer Sonnenfinsternis entsteht.
Zum Ablesen der Zeit verfügt die Uhr über einen Stunden- und einen Minutenzeiger. Doch auch die Sekunden hat man stets im Blick da sich am Außendurchmesser des Hemmungsrades eine Bohrung befindet die in einer Minute einmal um das Zifferblatt wandert.
Die Uhr läuft 25 Stunden am Stück und muss dann aufgezogen werden. Da das Gewicht an einer Kette hängt benötigt man dafür aber nur wenige Sekunden.

To read the time, the clock has an hour- and a minute hand. You have also a second hand which is a hole at the outer diameter of the escape wheel that travels in one minute once around the dial.
The clock runs 25 hours with one wind and then you have to rewind it. This requires only a few seconds because the weight is hanging on a chain.
