If your cultivator is showing any of these symptoms; replacing the recoil starter assembly could solve your problem:

1) The starter rope is broken or frayed
2) The starter rope is not rewinding (spring damaged or worn)
3) The starter rope is lost inside the housing
4) Grinding sounds inside the starter when the rope is pulled
5) Starter pulley not engaging the pawls in the cup
