  • This snippet shows how you can clamp the verticals during the dry pull with locking pliers. The important points are to set the pliers as close as parallel to the verticals as possible so, as they they tilt out when you let go of the cleat, they don’t tear the skin flap.

The other important point is to first apply some pull on the next vertical before you unclamp the pliers from the previous vertical. If you don’t do that, as you unclamp, the tension on the top will cause it to pull through the jaws of the pliers, potentially damaging the sheath.

https://www.mrmetric.com/?leadsource=MC1127 What are retaining rings? A retaining ring is a ring-shaped piece stamped out of spring steel. Retaining rings work by creating a shoulder that can hold components in place. The lugs on each end of the ring open slightly. When released it snaps into a groove and clings firmly to prevent rattling or instability.

There are two basic types of retaining rings. Internal retaining rings, which are engineered to slip into a groove within the bore of a shaft. External retaining rings are designed to fit onto a similar groove in the shaft’s outer surface.

You’ll find retaining rings — sometimes listed as snap rings, lock rings, spiral rings, retainer clips and other self-explanatory names.

Retaining rings are used for everyday items like lawn mowers, lamp assemblies, valves, furniture, home appliances, photography equipment, door handles, aircraft, sports equipment, brake cylinders, transmissions hand and power tools and so much more.

You’ll find the perfect ring for your needs at Mr. Metric! Contact Mr. Metric at 1-866-501-9504.
