Modifying the Rothco Stainless Steel Canteen Cup Lid so it will work with a GI Canteen Cup.
Couple of days ago I did a review of the Stainless Steel Military Supply Campers Camping Canteen Cup Cover I bought from Army Universe on ebay. The “cover” is actually a “Stainless Steel Canteen Cup Lid” from Rothco and I think you could tell from the review that I was a little disappointed in the lid.
The problem I had stems from the difference between Army Universe’s discription of the lid and Rothco’s.
Army Universe’s ad to said the lid, “May not fit your particular canteen cup. It is meant to be fitted on tightly.”
Where as the Rothco label of the lid package states, “… This Stainless Steel Canteen Cup Lid is custom made to fit Rothco’s G.I.Type Stainless Steel Canteen Cup (item 512).”
So the Rothco lid is made to fit on the Rothco canteen cup and doesn’t fit on ANY GI canteen cup. I’m not sure if Army Universe doesn’t know about truth in advertising or they figured saying “May not fit your particular canteen cup.” covers them. Not what I call fair advertising.
From my review video I got comments from Rob Aldridge (and others) suggesting, “… use small vice grips to fold the outer edge out FLAT…”
