Learning how to cut copper pipe is easy. BUT it’s nice to know what tools are out there, especially if you’ve got a project that’s in a tight space.
This video shows you 5 different tools that you should know about. They’ll make your life a lot easier.
1. Auto Cut Tube Cutter
2. Brass Craft Large Diameter Mini Tube Cutter
3. Lennox 3 Piece Tight Space Tube Cutters
4. Ridgid No. 15 Tube Cutter
5. Ridigd Copper Pipe Cleaning Brush
The first tool is the Auto Cut pipe cutter. It’s perfect for tight spaces, e.g. under a sink or stud bays. Clamp it onto 1/2″ copper and turn it in the direction of the arrow and you’ll cut your pipe in about 10 seconds. It’s small, fast, and accurate.
Only issue is you have two buy a second Auto Cut tool for 3/4″ pipe.
Which brings me to the Brass Craft Mini Tube Cutter. This is a great option if you want one tool that cuts 1/8″ to 1 1/8″ copper pipe. The only problem is it takes a lot longer to cut copper pipe than the Auto Cut Tool.
Lennox makes a fantastic tight space copper pipe tube cutter set. You get 3 tube cutters that cut 1/2″, 3/4″ and 1″ copper pipe. These cutters are similar to the Auto Cut tool and work super fast. Great option for anyone with different size copper pipes – which is pretty much everyone!!
The Ridgid No. 15 Tube Cutter is the mother of all tube cutting tools. It’s adjustable like the Brass Craft cutter, comes with an extra cutting wheel, has a lifetime warranty, and a fold way reamer. The reamer is an absolute must because it helps prevent loud pipes and possible pitting. So, even if you get the other tools you need a reamer.
The final tool is the Ridgid copper pipe cleaning brush. Use it to clean both the inside and outside of copper pipes and prep them for soldering or attachment to other fittings. I love this tool.
