Repairing Old Floors: How to Remove Nails and Staples from Hardwood Floor Without Damaging Wood

When you’re in the middle of repairing old floors, the damage can come in multiple forms (especially for rental repairs): scratched wood, warped wood, stains, holes, etc. What can happen a lot, especially if you’re redesigning the floor plan, is that you’ll find old staples and nails embedded in the hardwood flooring, and this video will show a very simple, very quick solution that won’t damage the floor.

Take round-nose vice grips (or roung-nose multi-grips(, grab the top of the staple, and push the grips down with a rolling motion to slide the staples out.

And it’s that simple! Also, either a slant in the staple is visible from the portion of it above the wood flooring, or you can note a pattern in the nails and staples after a while; if you know what direction to roll your vice-grip in, it will make how to remove staples that much easier without causing damage or shredding the top of the wood.
