Here’s a video I made showing how to remove the rear seat (passenger seat) on a 2006 Kawasaki Ninja ZX6-R. It may work on other years as well, but I’m not sure. Everywhere I looked online said the only way to remove the rear seat if you lost the key was to break the rear seat, or use a hacksaw to remove it. Well, that’s not the case. All you need are the tools to remove the fairings and main seat (allen wrench and screwdrivers) and a pair of needle nose pliers.
Once you remove the seat, the whole rear section can then be accessed, and the key lock removed if needed. Generally, the ignition and this rear seat lock will use the same key, so if you lose your key you can just have a locksmith make a new key for the ignition and it will work on the rear seat as well. However, in some cases previous owners may have changed out the ignition, or the rear seat lock. Or in my case, the locksmith was able to make the key work in the ignition, but not the rear seat lock, so I had no other option.
